Project 2 Proposal
Project 2 prompt
As an extension of the previous project and in line with Project 2's objective of designing something that is mass-produced, I would like to re-design my multi-sensory fidget device, Bubblin. It fits with this project because 3D fabrication files that can be used with 3D printers are reproducible. This design aims to help many people who need some isolation from bothersome elements in their lives by providing a personal portable item so it has to be reproducible.
Why redesign?
The old design I made is not unique, and it has little potential to attract market attention and appeal to the audience. The second reason is that since the Bubblin device is supposed to calm and comfort to people's minds, ergonomic design could contribute to that goal.
Plans
- Build a shape that feels comfortable in hands with clay. Decide its size as well.
- Take photos of the clay from the top, left, right, bottom, front, and back, and record its size as well.
- I will bring the photos to Rhinoeir and 3D-model the shape. I think I will use 'cage edit' most of the time.
- When modelling the shape in 3D, including the rest of the original, such as the screen hole, speaker hole, nob, USB-C outlet, the device's earphone jack connector, and buttons for media playback.
- Visit thrift shops and buy a bunch of toys to get an idea of how to keep the parts together. Document the research.
- Apply the assembling method to the design.
- Consult with the instructor about which way is the best way to print this design.
- Print the design and assemble its parts.
- Render the product's image and finish documenting this project.
