Project Proposal 02: Visualizing and animating product design with "Blender"

After sharing my idea in the last class, I was advised to save that project for the next assignment. At the same time, I was asked to consider this project's keyword, "Bespoke," more deeply.

Since I want to connect this project with my past graphic design project, I decided to develop one of my Info design class's projects. It was a project that required us to react to given articles. I was most interested in the article about how ASMR (Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response) helps people calm down and designed a fidget that can provide multiple sensory stimulation.

There are 2 reasons why I thought this project would fit into the theme "bespoke." Firstly, one of the features of this product is that the user can freely design its video, audio and sleeve/protective covers using the product website's "studio." I decided to have this feature for this product since I saw the endless list of designs of the fidgets, YouTube videos or other sources, and this is how I can meet the unique demands of every single user with different tastes. Secondly, this project comes differently to me since I fall into one of the target audiences. ASMR helps people to calm their chaotic minds down or fall asleep at night. I experience insomnia, have trouble calming my mind or concentrating and got help from ASMR videos. And I want to design my device for myself through this project.

Below is the tentative design that I did using Rhino.

From the research, I found out that among many types of sensory stimulations, people respond more to audio, visual and tactical stimulations. My fidget is designed to provide all of those stimulations: the screen on the product provides visual stimulations, and using the earphone jack or Bluetooth earphone can provide audio stimulations, multiple buttons on the surface of the device (+ customizable device cover that people can order through product website) can provide tactical stimulations.

Goal & Plan
1. Learn Blender tool (~ Feb 7rd)
- Take (a couple of) LinkedIn courses that can help me understand using the Blender program
- There are 2 courses at is about 5hs long

2. Produce 3D art animations that help people understand this device's "Studio" system.
 - Complete a design guide that clearly shows visual components (~ Feb 10th)
 - Design an animation that showcase studio system (~ Feb 23rd)

3. Write weekly progress documents every week.
